This is particularly true for 'always on' devices. Power Over Ethernet integrates data, voice and power on standard Ethernet infrastructure, allowing IP telephones, wireless LAN access points, surveillance cameras and other embedded appliances to get power and data over existing CAT5 cabling. An international standard since 2002 (IEEE802.3af), PoE has become established as an economical and safe power distribution method and is already widely used. The Ault Division of SL Power Electronics has a range of products including power sources and line splitters designed to add Power over Ethernet to a network. The Ault PW180 family provides power and data over a single Ethernet cable. This compact, self-contained device provides an efficient and cost-effective solution to systems designers confronting the need for additional electrical outlets or the placement of network access points. Since PoE carries both power and data over a single Ethernet cable, the application is powered through the same cable it already uses to communicate. The Ault PW180KB powers equipment up to 15.4W and is compliant with IEEE802.3af, whereby the power source recognises a signature before enabling full output power. The AC input voltage range is 100 to 250 V AC and the AC input frequency ranges from 47Hz to 63Hz. The PW180 complies with EMI/RFI regulations, is CE-compliant and meets safety approvals for OEMs to support customers worldwide. Each model has input configuration options of either IEC320 with ground or shaver plug. |
