Welcome to AC/DC Power Supplies

Midspan supplies larger PoE loads

Phihong's 30W one-port midspan from is now being implemented into high power applications that implement the IEEE802.11n standard. Designated the POE30U Series, the midspan is designed to power wireless and WiMAX access points that require up to 24W of power. IEEE 802.11n, the new broadband wireless standard, has driven up access point power requirements beyond current IEEE802.3af standards.

'802.11n access points with A/B/G support and new WiMAX access points are typically using up to 24W of power', said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing for Phihong USA.

'By using our high power midspan, there is no need for installing new local AC power outlets and special wiring, eliminating the cost and time delays of calling an electrician'.

In addition to wireless and WiMAX access points, applications for the POE30U midspans include IP telephones with streaming video and high quality pan/tilt/zoom.

The 30W midspan features diagnostic LEDs and the same safety and protection systems as with the IEEE802.3af standard, including detection, disconnect and overload control.

The device is also Gigabit-compatible.

DC output voltage for the one-port midspan is 56V with accurate overload detection to 0.55A.

The outputs are equipped with short circuit and overload protection, and the output can be shorted permanently without damage.

AC input voltage range is 90 to 264V AC, with voltage rating from 100 to 240V AC and AC input frequency from 47 to 63Hz.

Phihong's POE30U midspan has been tested for compatibility and broadband data handling capability by UNH IOL.

Safety approvals for the 30W one-port device include cUL/UL and CE.

Phihong is an expert at international safety agency approvals and can offer almost any international safety or EMC compliance standard.
